Seth gave me an idea about putting some protection on my Jeep's radiator and also gave me directions on how to do it. So. the grille mod was simple.

Bill of material:
1. Steel netting from garden department. 40$ for 25ft, I cut small piece out of it and the rest will be used for household and garden purposes.
2. Plastic zip ties. 8$
3. Epoxy. 5.50$
4. Zip ties posts. 3.50$
5. Can of white automotive paint. 4.50$
6. Old newspaper. Free.
7. Paper plate for mixing epoxy. Ummm. 1c
Tools:
1. Side cutters.
2. Flat screwdriver.

Time consumed . In two days (breaked for paint drying), about 2-2.5 hours.
Previous experience: None.

  • Step #1. Open front grille and take a measures. In my case it was 29x13.5 inches. To open front grille, pull 6 plastic posts on top and gently yank 5 clips in the bottom. Then disconnect turning lights. To do so, you need to pull red plastic ta, press on locking button on the plug and gently pull the plug out.
  • Step #2. Mix epoxy in the paper plate and glue zip-tie posts to the back of the front grille. I put three posts in each "row" and three posts on each side and about half a dozen to the top and to the bottom of the grille.
  • Step #3. Let epoxy set in for about 30-40 minutes (posts must not be movable) and put grille back. For that connect the turn signal wires, insert clips back and put the plastic pins.
  • Step #4. Cut 29x13.5 inches piece of steel netting using side cutters. I nick my hands many times while I did that. Put the old newspaper on the ground, spread it as far as you can, put piece you just cut on the newspaper and paint it. You can match the color of the net to the color of the body if you wish so. Let the paint to dry overnight.
  • Step #5. Open grille again, align netting inside the grille and start to connect it to the back of the grille using zip-ties and zip-tie posts. Start from the bottom, do not tie down, give it a slack until you not finished to connect all zip-ties. Then gently start to tie zip-ties. Work from the bottom and left to right (or whatever you prefer). When finished, cut the tie tails with side cutters.
  • Step #6. Put the grille back. Do not forget to connect turn signal wires.
  • Step #7. Have a beer (Optional).

Here is what it's look-like:

Unmodified stock Jeep face.

Pull the pins.

Yank the clips

Cut and paint the net.

Glue the posts

Start to tie-down the net to the back of the grille.

Tie all ties and cut the excessive tie ends.

Put the grille back and here is a finished installation.
